We continue to volunteer in our new location. A resident a few minutes away complained that someone dumped trash near her home. We got the address and picked up 175 plastic pots. We took them to a nearby nursery. The owner in return gave us a discount on two palm trees we were buying. A few days later we returned to the dump site and picked up some of the soil cubes for our garden. It felt great to help clean up some of the mess and recycle some materials. While watching The Gentleman on Netflix one night we realized we were undoubtedly cleaning up a drug farm dump with harvested pot plants. We all live on this planet and we all need to make an effort to leave it in better condition, even if that means cleaning up after a drug farmer. 😁

One thing you can do today is lower your use of sugar. Sugarcane production is a large source of pollution for water, soil and air quality around the globe. High-sugar diets are linked to an increased risk of diseases, including heart disease and diabetes. Sugar is also contributing to adult and childhood obesity.
Start today. Monitor your sugar intake. Read product labels. Consider eating more whole foods and not buying as many processed foods. Consider not drinking sodas and juices, which will also reduce plastics. Drink more water. Choose alternatives to sugar such as molasses, honey, real maple syrup and agave. Support shops and restaurants that promote local food sources and farms.
Next steps. Walk away from processed sugar completely. Contact your representative in Congress to improve regulations on sugar production. Spread the word about reducing processed sugar to save the planet and our health.
